Tragic Loss: Gov Kefas Blames Police for Sister’s Death

Taraba State is reeling from a shocking revelation by Governor Kefas Agbu concerning the tragic death of his sister, Atsi Kefas, in 2024. What was widely believed to be a bandit attack along the dangerous Wukari-Chinkai Road has now been clarified by the Governor himself: Atsi was fatally shot by a police escort assigned to their mother.

Speaking to journalists in Jalingo, Governor Kefas provided a poignant account of the incident. Atsi was traveling with their mother from Jalingo to Abuja when the unthinkable happened. “Life is very precious to me,” Governor Kefas stated, his voice heavy with grief. “You can’t just end someone’s life and think God will be happy with you. My younger sister was shot and killed by a police escort who was inside the same bus with her.

Further investigation, he revealed, indicated that Atsi was shot at close range. Critically, pellets from the firearm were found in Atsi’s body during surgery before she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. The implicated policeman is currently under investigation, and Governor Kefas is resolute in his pursuit of justice for his sister.

This revelation completely upends the initial public narrative, which painted a picture of a harrowing kidnapping attempt by bandits. The truth, as presented by the Governor, points to a deeply disturbing incident involving those sworn to protect.

Beyond his personal tragedy, Governor Kefas also addressed the escalating violence plaguing parts of Taraba State. He specifically highlighted the recent massacre in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area, where over 50 lives were brutally cut short. During the press briefing, he observed a moment of silence, honoring both his sister and the victims of the Karim-Lamido attack.

The Governor unequivocally condemned the surge in violence, imploring residents to embrace peace and unity over conflict. To address the root causes of the Karim-Lamido crisis and propose lasting solutions, he announced plans to establish a commission of inquiry.

As of the time of this report, the Taraba State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding Governor Kefas’s claims, leaving many questions unanswered and a state gripped by sorrow and the demand for accountability.
