Nigerian Government to Develop Obudu Cattle Ranch into Major Livestock and Dairy Hub

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to develop the Obudu Cattle Ranch into a major livestock and dairy production center. This initiative was revealed by Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, during a recent visit to the ranch, signaling a significant step towards boosting the country’s agricultural sector.

The Federal Government of Nigeria plans to transform the Obudu Cattle Ranch into a major livestock and dairy production hub. Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, announced this initiative during a visit to the ranch, highlighting the sector’s vast potential. The ranch is situated near the Obudu Mountain Resort in Cross River State, with a favorable climate and biodiversity.
Nigeria’s livestock sector is estimated to be worth N33 trillion, with the government aiming to tap into this potential through modernization and infrastructure development. The success of this initiative depends on collaboration between federal and state governments, traditional rulers, and pastoralist organizations.
Investment: A $2.5 billion investment commitment from Brazilian livestock investors and a letter of intent with JBS S.A, a global meat processing company, underscore the sector’s potential.
